Beyond is a programme for international collaboration and support run by the Anti-Trafficking and Modern Slavery department of The Salvation Army United Kingdom and Ireland.

An integral part of The Salvation Army’s international strategy responding to modern slavery and human trafficking is to have a ‘trained first responder’ known as a National Contact Person (NCP) in each country where The Salvation Army exists. The growth of the NCP network has seen an increase in international cooperation and enhanced coordinated support of survivors of trafficking and their families.

NCPs are primarily leaders with The Salvation Army. Whilst they have some training in modern slavery and human trafficking, they are not qualified social care professionals. Their role, therefore, is to be a friendly point of contact on return, to navigate the local context with up to date and relevant information, to refer survivors and their families to more specialist services where possible, and to provide some basic support in contexts where no other services exist.

Beyond exists to utilise The Salvation Army’s global network, to connect survivors to local services and to support them in their journey of return, reintegration and recovery.

  • Beyond seeks to fill gaps in support rather than to duplicate existing services.
  • The Beyond Programme will work alongside our designated partners to provide the following two services:
  • Return and Reintegration Support
  • Support to family members separated across borders.
  • Story of support

“I am very thankful to The Salvation Army’s Beyond Programme who made it possible for her to return to her home country. She had been wanting to go back home ever since she was first trafficked to the UK but has unfortunately not had any safe place to go. It was so great to be able to work together with the Beyond Programme to support her to be able to not only have a safe house to live in her own country, but who also offer her support in her own culture and language to move forward positively with her life there. I saw a huge difference in her mental health and wellbeing once she knew she could go home and still be safe and receive support.”
